Snow Holiday Insurance

Travel insurance is recommended, and Hotham Holidays can get you covered with Aussietravelcover.  It is under written by Allianz who rank among the largest insurance companies in the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  Am I covered for loss or damage to skiing equipment?  Yes, for loss or damage but not while you are using it.  Page 30 of the brochure gives you all the details of luggage and personal effects.  This includes what is covered and what is not when it comes to luggage left in cars.  No luggage will be covered if it is left in a car overnight, regardless of whether it is out of sight or not.

2.  Am I covered if we are prevented from skiing for more than 24 hours due to total closure of the lift system?  Yes, between 15th June and 30 September, provided the skiing facilities are greater than 1000m above ski level.

3.  Am I covered if my things are stolen from my locked hotel room or locker?  Yes, but you will need a report from the Hotel Manager and possibly the police. Please read the policy wording for the value per item or set.  There is a limit of $750.00 for unspecified items but much higher amounts for things like laptops and cameras etc.  These amounts are up to the value of the policy selected.  Please see pages 7 and 29 of the brochure for all the benefits.

4.  Am I covered if I break my leg on the mountain?  No.  Not for medical reasons as you are covered by Medicare.  You are however covered for additional expenses that may include flights instead of coach or car if the attending medical officer recommends it, but not if a medical officer is required to travel with you.  It would then be considered repatriation and Ambulance Cover would be required.

5.  Am I covered for transport off the mountain?  Not if the transport is provided by a medical team.  Once again, Ambulance Cover is required due to the Medical Health Act.

6.  What if my daughter gets chicken pox before we go?  If you need to cancel due to a sudden, non pre-existing condition and you have a doctors certificate, then you are covered.

7.  Am I covered by insurance if I decided not to go because I have insufficient money?  No.  However, if the traveller or travelling companion were made redundant from their full time employment, and they were not aware that redundancy was to occur before they purchased their policy, then they would be covered.

8.  I qualify for free travel insurance with my credit card, do I need to take out a snow insurance policy too?  Please ask your consultant to email you a ‘Credit Card Disclaimer Form’, this will have information and questions which will help you determine whether you are fully covered, or whether you need to take out an additional policy for your holiday.

TYPES OF POLICIES AVAILABLE

Please also see page 23 of your policy brochure

SINGLE – Covers you and your dependants travelling with you.

DUO – Covers you and your travelling companion listed on your Certificate.  It does not cover for dependants.  There is only one certificate and you are given a 5% discount from the total premium.  The cover provided is as though both have cover on separate policies, with single benefit limits per individual person.

FAMILY – Covers two adults travelling together with their dependant children or grandchildren.  The two adults have to be spouses, or legally recognised as de facto.  Please note the definition of dependant is your child or grandchild not in full time employment and under the age of 21.
