What clothing and equipment do I need?

Most importantly is the right clothing – You need clothing that keeps you warm and dry. A great way to dress in the snow is the ‘Onion-method’ - Dress in layers to trap warm air and it gives you the flexibility for changing conditions, plus a waterproof outer layer on top to keep you dry. Pack the warmest, most waterproof gear you own.

The right equipment can mean the difference between a great day on the slopes and a frustrating one. You don’t need to buy your own gear, but it is important that you ensure the equipment you hire is the perfect fit for you.

Checklist - essentials:

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof pants
  • Warm jumper, sweatshirt or fleece jacket
  • Base layer long T-Shirt or thermals
  • Base layer pants or thermals
  • Waterproof gloves or mittens
  • Beanie
  • Helmet; it’s not compulsory to wear a helmet if you ski/board on your own but it’s advisable.
  • Ski goggles and sunglasses
  • Long socks; Wear a pair of good quality ski socks, not cotton, as they pull the moisture away from your feet which helps to avoid blisters.
  • Sunblock (30+) and lip balm (with SPF); it may be snowy and wintery but the UV in the mountains is very strong
  • Winter boots; they can be sturdy waterproof boots for walking around in the snow

How do I know if my ski boots fit?

Finding the right boot for you is essential for your perfect ski day. One of our friendly boot fitters will measure your foot, so they can assure that your boots fit properly.

How to check if your boot fits:

  • The boot should feel snug around your foot, but not too tight.
  • Buckled up boot; you should be able to wiggle your toes and they should just touch the end of the boot.
  • Move into the skiing position; bend your knees but keep your back straight, and the toes should come off the end of the boot but your heel should not move when you pull up on it.
  • Your toes should not be consistently touching the front of the boot.
  • If the boot feels too loose, too tight or you’re feeling pressure points anywhere, let the team know as it’s important that it fits properly so you can control your skis easily. The boot transfers your input to the binding and the skis.
  • The better the boot fits, the easier it will be to learn to ski. If you are out and about and the boot doesn’t fit after all, we are happy to exchange them for a better fitting pair.

Guru Tip
Wear a pair of good quality ski socks, not cotton, as they pull the moisture away from your feet which helps to avoid blisters. Make sure you cut your toe nails too, this limits any rubbing. When you are doing your boots up, make sure you have nothing inside the boot but your socks. Things like pant liners, thermals, anklets etc should be folded to the top or on the outside of the boots.

How do I know that my snowboard boots fit?

How to check if your boot fits:

  • Tightened boot; you should be able to wiggle your toes and they should just touch the end of the boot.
  • Move into the riding position; bend your knees but keep your back straight, and the toes should come off the end of the boot but your heel should not move when you pull up on it.

Why do you need my height, weight and DOB?

We need this information to accurately set up your gear for you. Especially with skiing it is important to set the release point of the ski binding according to the manufacturers’ recommendations.
